BCYP’s Statement on COVID-19
Following the guidelines issued by the Government of British Columbia, it is with a heavy heart that BCYP has decided to cancel all in-person service projects and social events throughout the province until further notice. BCYP has also postponed the following events:
28th Fraser Youth Parliament
27th Islands Youth Parliament
1st Canada Youth Parliament
Gala
Camp Training
This was a difficult decision to make. However, much like the legend of the phoenix, life and BCYP's events will return when this pandemic has passed. BCYP remains confident that we will be able to fulfill our motto of "Youth Serving Youth" by fundraising the money necessary to fund camp training and Camp Phoenix, which is planned to take place at the end of August.
BCYP recognizes that this is a challenging and stressful time for all of us. COVID-19 poses a threat to everyone’s health, and that means mental health too. We would like to reiterate that staying apart does not mean staying alone. Now more than ever is the time to stay connected with your friends, family, and loved ones, and to take time for yourself. “The villagers, in their dismay as they see the Phoenix burn, do not notice the falling egg, and it comes to rest faraway...
Without the Phoenix in the sky as a sign of hope, of life, of good fortune, the villagers are left destitute. Floods come and wash away their homes; drought comes and kills their crops. The villagers begin to starve. They talk, in their sorrow, of the great days when the Phoenix flew, and things were good...
But faraway, something is happening. The tiny golden egg, which fell unseen by all, is glowing. Slowly, slowly, it rocks, first one way, then the other. A crack appears. Then another... Suddenly there is a great burst of brilliant light and out of the egg emerges a newborn Phoenix!
The villagers watch as the Phoenix wings its way into the sky far, far above. As the glow of its golden feathers reaches its full vigor they dance and sing, for they know the happiness that comes with the Phoenix shining in the sky...
Some years, the Phoenix is gone, and times are dark. But every time, without fail, there will be a Phoenix egg, ready to hatch into a new baby Phoenix and restore joy and prosperity to the village.”
